Where do I even start? I’ve been taking photos since I was a teenager, but I was never adept at composition or storytelling. My photographs were mainly snapshots, images that were byproducts from an unexplainable need to capture the most mundane details; something a five year-old with a Polaroid could create. I had no understanding of light and dark or negative space. I had no eye for detail or possessed the ability to produce a notable reaction from people. So I shelved the camera until I was required to take a photography class in college. Black and white. Analog. Old school. I processed my own film. I developed my own images. And it was revolutionary. Not because I believed I would be a photographer shooting for Life or National Geographic sometime in the near, foreseeable, unpredictable future, but because it was another way to reveal who I was without having to write it down on paper. Do you know what I mean?

The images here are not taken on a Canon or Nikon. Good God. I don’t remember what aperture produces what effect or what speed to use to purposely blur backgrounds (did I even get that right?). I’m a copywriter who’s pretty handy with an iPhone and a few editing tools. If you follow me on Instagram, then these images will be familiar to you. The title of each post is the date and caption of that particular snapshot. I am revisiting the past in pursuit of whatever the foreseeable, unpredictable future may have in store. What story am I trying to tell?
